Agege Community Celebrates Decades Of Existence

The Agege Community in Lagos will on Friday begin the celebration of its decades of existence and achievements.

Tagged Agege Day, the weeklong activities will feature Special Jumat Service at Markaz Central Mosque; Awareness rallies across the community by artists of various musical genres and theatre practitioners; Miss Agege Beauty Pageant; Special Sunday Service at St. Saviour’s African Church; Secondary School Debate at Government College; Cultural and Traditional Displays; Novelty match and Launching of the N500 million Agege Educational Endowment Fund at Agege Stadium.

Fuji maestro King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K 1) will entertain the guests during the Grand Finale party.

Chairman of the Agege Day Celebrations Committee, Afolabi Ayantayo said the celebrations encompass all aspects of the lives of the Agege people namely, religious, cultural, social, educational and sports.

Ayantayo, Special Adviser, Parastatals Monitoring Office (PMO) to the Lagos State Governor, said over the past century, Agege town has grown from an ancestral settlement to a cosmopolitan township, attracting settlers from within and outside the country, with estimated population standing at over a million people.

The community, he said, would be celebrating the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa, who has become the brand ambassador of Agege.

“Obasa has, through his political sagacity, attracted developmental projects to Agege including the Pen Cinema Bridge and lots of road construction.

He thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for improving on past administrations’ investments in various sectors of the social lives of the people of Agege.
