According to a report on Thursday, some Northerners living in Owerri, Imo State became afraid of their lives following the killing of 8 Nigeriens by suspected members of the proscribed indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB). Reports shows that the attack took place on Monday when the gunmen attacked a building at Orogwe, Owerri, Imo State, which was occupied mainly by Hausa immigrants from Nigeria and Niger Republic.

Sources revealed that the building was attacked because the gunmen taught the building was occupied mainly by migrants from the North, not knowing that the victims were foreigners from Niger Republic.

However, speaking about the incident, an eye witness, Abubakar Muhammad, stated that the gunmen had earlier visited the community on Monday. He noted that when the gunmen came on Monday, they were not carrying arms. They even exchanged pleasantries with people, but they came back at night shooting people.

The eyewitness revealed that most of the people killed were his colleagues in the Suya business. Speaking further, he revealed that the gunmen had earlier opened fire on Northern travellers on Sunday, a day before the attack. He stated that the gunmen opened fire on a bus when they realized that they were Northern travellers. Many were wounded as a result of this, and one lost his life.
